Dogon Dancer

The belief system of the Dogon people includes astronomic knowledge and religious practice that acknowledges transformation and change. Amongst these people of what is today known as Mali, mask are an essential tool for bringing forth the opportunity to imagine what's possibilities. The dancer in this image is performing in a Kanaga mask. This tall headdress with a double-cross is one of the most recognized symbols in the system of over 70 different masks.
