James Farmer

An American civil rights activist. As a Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) leader, Farmer helped shape the civil rights movement through his nonviolent activism and organizing of sit-ins and Freedom Ride. His actions helped broaden popular support for the passage of the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts in the mid-1960s.
